Detailed 4-Day Masai Mara Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pickup from Hotel & Transfer to Masai Mara Reserve
After breakfast at around 8:00 a.m., a professional driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Masai Mara Reserve. The drive takes about six hours, passing through scenic open grasslands. Along the way, you will have chances to spot some wildlife.
Upon arrival, check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and spend the night at the hotel.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive
Wake up at 7:30 a.m., have breakfast, and collect your packed lunch. You will then head out for a full-day game drive in the Masai Mara wilderness. This is your chance to see the Big Five, lions, buffaloes, elephants, leopards, and rhinos.
You will also spot zebras grazing with wildebeests, gazelles, topis, antelopes, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas. The reserve is also home to over 500 bird species, making it an excellent place for bird watchers.
After a long and exciting day, return to the lodge in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Horseback Riding & Masai Cultural Tour
After breakfast, begin your horseback riding adventure. This activity allows you to get closer to the animals and enjoy the open savanna air. You may see grazers and browsers while predators quietly watch for their next meal.
If you are lucky, you might see a cheetah chasing a gazelle and catching it within seconds. Along the way, you will pass herds of buffaloes, elephants, browsing giraffes, and mixed groups of zebras and wildebeests. This gives you another great chance to view the animals up close.
After the horseback ride, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit a nearby Masai village for a cultural experience. You will see the traditional Manyattas, houses made from grass, wood, and mud and learn about the Masai way of life. The local people will welcome you with traditional songs and dances. Day 4: Transfer Back to Nairobi Airport
