When to Visit Rwanda

Rwanda just like Uganda has two main dry seasons and two wet seasons, though the country can be visited all year round some months are better than other months that can be seen below.

Dry seasons

There are two dry seasons in Rwanda and that is from mid December to early February and the long dry season from June to September. During this time, the vegetation is not thick making it easy to spot wildlife. This is also the best for gorilla trekking as the trekking trails are not muddy and slippery but in perfect condition.

Wet seasons

The wet seasons in Rwanda begin from mid February to early June and from to mid September to mid December. The wet season can be the best time to visit Rwanda for chimpanzee trekking this is because during third time food is very abundant for chimpanzees so they won’t be going to higher elevations in search for food, chimpanzees can easily be trekked at this time of the year. Visiting Rwanda for gorilla trekking during this time of the year is not advisable because roads leading to the park are not in good condition and the hiking trails become very steep, muddy and slippery.

Mid October to November

Mid October to November is the best time for birding in Rwanda, birding can also be done in early December and late May. This is also the best time for excellent photography because the vegetation is just blossoming and lush green. Though it can rain in most cases the sky clears up and the sun shines bright again.

The most common tourists activity in Rwanda is gorilla trekking at Volcanoes national park plus mountain climbing but tourists can also explore Nyungwe forest national park for the scenic canopy walk and chimpanzee trekking, you can enjoy game drives at Akagera national park. There also many sites and museums where you can learn about the 1994 Rwandan genocide. You can access Rwanda by flying to Kigali International Airport.
