Detailed 4-Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, our guide and travel company representative will welcome you. You will be transferred to Kigali for lunch and a short city tour, visiting craft villages and the Gisozi Genocide Memorial.
Afterward, continue to Volcanoes National Park, arriving in time for dinner and an overnight stay as you prepare for the thrilling gorilla trekking experience the next day.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking and Twin Lakes Visit
Start the day with an early breakfast, then head to the park headquarters for a 30-minute briefing, starting at 7:30 am. During the briefing, you will learn about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking, be assigned a group, and receive a gorilla family to track.
The trek to find the gorillas can take 2-8 hours, depending on their location. Once you find them, you will spend a full hour observing and photographing these gentle giants. Afterward, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.
In the afternoon, visit Rwanda’s twin lakes, Burera and Ruhondo, then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Dian Fossey Hike and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Visit
On the third day, take a hike to the grave of Dian Fossey, an American conservationist who dedicated decades to protecting mountain gorillas. The hike is physically challenging but rewarding, offering insights into the history of gorilla conservation.
After the hike, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where you will experience Rwandan culture through traditional dances, music, and other activities. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before entering the forest to search for golden monkeys. This activity can last up to 5 hours, depending on the movement of the monkeys. Once located, you will spend an hour observing and photographing them.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and then transfer back to Kigali International Airport in time for your departure flight.
