Detailed 3-Day Kigali Bwindi Gorilla Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park from Kigali, Rwanda
On your first day of the 3-Day Kigali Bwindi gorilla tour, the assigned driver guide will pick you up from an agreed-upon point – either the airport in Kigali – and quickly provide you with a simple briefing about this amazing tour to Bwindi National Park.
This national park is one of the two national parks in the Pearl of Africa – Uganda – that offers a gorilla trekking experience, both located in the far southwestern part of Uganda.
Apart from the gorillas, this park is home to other wildlife, such as forest elephants, buffalos, different bird species, and other small primates.
While on the way to the park, you will meet local people carrying luggage, see cattle farms, pass through bustling towns, make different stopovers to relax, enjoy views of the Virunga ranges, and take memorable photos, as well as have lunch.
On arrival after a journey that can last for 4-5 hours, check in at the accommodation facility for your dinner and overnight stay as you prepare for the adventure the next morning.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in the morning and optional Batwa community experience
Start the second day of your 3-Day Kigali Bwindi gorilla tour with a hearty breakfast, and then your driver guide will take you to the briefing point at the park offices.
This exercise is crucial for your wildlife experience, as it involves guidelines to follow while in the forest, checking gorilla permits, grouping visitors for the trek, and allocating a gorilla family.
After all that, you will begin the trek under the guidance of a well-armed park ranger, along with porters who help carry extra luggage.
Trekking can last for 2 to 8 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family visited, and this includes an hour spent in their presence.
In this forest, you can also spot other captivating attractions like small primates such as vervet monkeys, colobus monkeys, olive baboons, and more.
After the experience, return to the lodge with your trekking certificate and have lunch.
If you still have energy, you can take an optional activity of visiting the Batwa pygmies.
The Batwa are known as the ancestral inhabitants of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and due to conservation policies, they were resettled outside the park boundaries.
During this tour, you can explore their culture through storytelling, cultural music and dances, learn how to make fire using local materials, and more.
Support the local economy by purchasing their handcrafted items like baskets, wood carvings, and clothing.
Return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 3: Depart back to Kigali, Rwanda
Breakfast will be served in the morning, and then you can pack your luggage in the vehicle for the transfer back to Kigali.
The journey will take approximately 4 – 5 hours, and on arrival, you can take a short city tour of Kigali’s historical attractions, such as the local markets, presidential palace museum, art museum, the milk bar, Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, and others.
Later on, head to the airport where you will be dropped off, marking the end of the 3-Day Kigali Bwindi gorilla tour.
