Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Primates & Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Upon arrival at the airport, you will meet our tour company representative who will brief you and transfer you to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southern Rwanda.
Along the way, you will stop at the Butare Museum for a historical tour and lunch. You will arrive at Nyungwe in the evening, have dinner, and rest while preparing for the activities planned for the following day.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk
Start the day early to track chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest. You will locate the chimps while they are still in their nests before they become harder to track.
Spend a full hour observing them before returning to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, go for a canopy walk on top of Nyungwe Forest. Enjoy amazing views of the forest and spot primates and birds.
Afterward, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Musanze
After breakfast, depart Nyungwe and head to Musanze, in northern Rwanda, where Volcanoes National Park is located.
Along the way, you will have lunch in Kigali City. Arrive at Musanze in the evening, have dinner, and relax for the night.
Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Tracking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Visit
After a hearty breakfast, head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing before starting your gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park.
Once you locate a gorilla family, spend an hour observing them before returning to the park headquarters to receive your gorilla tracking certificate.
In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience Rwandan culture through traditional dances, storytelling, and more.
Afterward, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a golden monkey tracking experience. Spend an hour with these primates before returning to the lodge for lunch.
Later, transfer to Kigali for a short city tour and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Leave Kigali early in the morning and travel east to Akagera National Park. Arrive in time to check into your lodge and have lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Game Drive in Akagera and Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, set out for a morning game drive in Akagera National Park to spot animals such as elephants, lions, giraffes, and antelopes.
Return to the lodge for lunch, then transfer to Kigali for your departure flight, marking the end of your 7-day safari.
