Detailed 3-Day Tsavo Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Tsavo National Park

Leave Nairobi in the morning and drive to Tsavo National Park, where you will stay for two nights. This is one of Kenya’s oldest protected areas, established in 1948. The park was named after the Tsavo River, which serves as its main water source.

Tsavo is located next to Chyulu Hills National Park and Mkomazi Game Reserve in Tanzania. The drive takes about six to seven hours with stops along the way. When you arrive, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and relax for the evening.

Day 2: Morning & Evening Game Drives

Today you will enjoy two game drives, one in the morning and another in the evening. These drives give you the chance to see the famous Tsavo lions, also called the “man-eaters,” from the old railway story. Start your day with breakfast before heading out with your driver-guide and park ranger.

You will see many animals as you explore the open plains. Watch for zebras, lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, rhinos, impalas, kudus, cheetahs, elands, and more. The park is also home to over 500 bird species, including the African finfoot, golden pipit, and anhinga rufa. You may also choose to have a picnic lunch during the day before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Return to Nairobi & Optional City Tour

After breakfast, enjoy a short game drive as you leave Tsavo National Park, then begin your journey back to Nairobi. The drive takes about five to six hours. On arrival, have lunch and take an optional short city tour. You can visit attractions such as the National Museum, art galleries, and the Maasai markets.

Later, you will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your 3-day Tsavo Wildlife Safari.
