This short tour to Kahuzi-Biega National Park is made for tourists who want to trek the endangered eastern lowland gorillas. These gorillas are rare and only found in this special park in Africa.

The tour includes gorilla trekking where you will spend one hour with the gorillas to make lasting memories. You will also learn the difference between mountain gorillas and eastern lowland gorillas.

On this trip, you will visit two countries at the same time: Rwanda, known as the land of a thousand hills, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kahuzi-Biega National Park is one of the unique parks in Africa and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park from Kigali, Rwanda

Your tour driver guide will pick you up and give you a briefing about the tour. Then you will head to Kahuzi-Biega National Park near Rubavu.

You will cross the Cyangungu border and enjoy views of hills and forests like Nyungwe Forest, home to many primates.

You may also have the option to visit the Presidential Palace Museum and other sites. Arrive and check in at the lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Return to Kigali, Rwanda

Start the day with breakfast, then drive to the park office for a briefing. The park guide will explain the rules, what to bring, and the need to carry enough water. Trekking will begin with an armed park ranger guiding you.

Along the way, you may see birds and other primates like vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and red colobus monkeys. You will spend one hour with the gorillas, which is a very special and rewarding moment. The whole experience takes about 5 to 7 hours.

After the trek, return to the lodge for a hot lunch and then check out. You will be transferred back to Kigali and dropped off at an agreed place, such as the airport. This marks the end of the safari.
