Detailed Safari

Day 1: Pickup and Kigali tour

Meet and greet at the designated pickup point on this day. You will then make your way to the lodge to check in. Freshen up after checking in at the lodge and have an early lunch. The evening has been set aside for a tour of Kigali, one of Africa’s most charming cities.

Kigali genocide center, craft markets where you may buy souvenirs, practice your bargaining skills with the locals, purchase some goods for your upcoming safari, and other historical sites are among the destinations to encounter in and around the city. Enjoy dinner and a restful snooze to round off this day.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park

After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, depart towards Akagera National Park on a lovely journey that should take you two to three hours. You will keep an eye out for the beautiful countryside vegetation, sweeping hills, bustling towns and more.

When you get there, check in at the lodge, sign up and then relax in your room. An optional one-hour nature walk in the evening will be a welcome break from the day’s transfer. Enjoy a delicious dinner and tranquil evening to reflect on your day.

Day 3: Full day Game drive

After a restful night’s sleep, you will awaken to a hearty breakfast at the lodge and then depart for a fulfilling 3 to 4 hours’ game drive. In particular, keep an eye out for the sought-after “Big5 mammals”, which includes lions, leopards, African buffaloes, cape elephants and rhinos. Giraffes, zebras and other animals will also capture your interest. With a variety of plants, primates, and other animals, the park’s terrain is breathtaking.

You will have bush breakfast and lunch after game drive, followed by some relaxing moments and a sunset game drive which increases your chances of seeing nocturnal hunters like lions and many other creatures. The day concludes with a hearty dinner, a campfire (depending on your lodging preference), and other activities. The day closes with dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Sunrise bird watching and evening boat cruise

A skilled bird guide will accompany you to the specific birding sites after a mouthwatering breakfast is served at the lodge. Early in the morning is the optimum time to go birding in Rwanda. Spend two to three hours naming some of the 500 bird species that call Akagera National Park home, using their names, colors, sounds, and characteristics. The Caruthers cisticola, the bare-faced go-away bird, the marabou stork, the African fish eagle, the sooty chat, and others are among them.

Following the birding excursion, there will be lunch and an afternoon boat cruise where you may sail on the lake and observe waterbucks up close, hippos, crocodiles and various aquatic species. About two to three hours during the tour, you’ll drive back to the lodge for dinner and night stay.

Day 5: Departure

After a thrilling safari experience, you’ll enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the lodge before checking out and departing for Kigali international airport or another pre-arranged drop-off location. Bring souvenirs from Rwanda with you so you can tell people about this beautiful country.
