Detailed 3-Day Rwanda Birding Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park & Canopy Walk
After pickup from Kigali, drive to Nyungwe National Park, one of the oldest mountain rainforests in Africa. The park is home to 13 primate species and over 300 bird species. Upon arrival, enjoy the canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest, which offers a chance to see birds, monkeys, and forest views from above. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Whole Day Birding in Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, set out for a full day of bird watching in Nyungwe Forest National Park. This activity gives you the opportunity to see birds such as Miombo Rock-Thrush, Rockefeller’s Sunbird, Mountain Masked Apalis, Collared Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit, Grauer’s Warbler, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Ruwenzori Turaco, Handsome Francolin, and Kivu Ground Thrush.

After breakfast, take part in an optional chimpanzee tracking experience in Nyungwe National Park. After a short briefing, head into the forest with a ranger guide to find the chimpanzees. The trek can take up to 5 hours, including one hour spent watching and photographing them.
