Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park from Kigali with a stopover at the former presidential palace museum.

Pick up from any agreed point in Kigali city and transfer to Nyungwe National Park, a renowned national park sheltering up to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees. Enjoy the surroundings of Nyungwe on arrival and this will mark the end of your first day.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and head to Volcanoes National Park

Head for briefing at the park offices about chimp trekking adventure. You will be told about what you need before undertaking this great adventure such as dressing in appropriate trekking attire, enough drinking water, energy-giving snacks, a rain jacket, camera and binoculars.

The Park guide will take you into the forest to start the search together with the porters. Meeting a group of chimps creates everlasting memories as you spend an hour in their presence. Other primates can be spotted such as the colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons and many more.

Like any other park activity, golden monkey trekking will commence immediately after breakfast and the briefing exercise. The park ranger guide will take you through this experience and you will be in a position to learn about the dos and don’ts to follow while trekking; the use of flashlights is recommended since these primates tend to draw closer, don’t feed the golden monkeys and other creatures you meet, don’t litter the park premises, etc. Start the search and head to bamboo forested areas and upon locating them, spend an hour in their presence to mark the end of this tour after returning to the lodge.

After lunch, head for a community tour within Ibyiwacu cultural village, also called the gorilla guardian village. Learn about the daily lifestyle of Rwandans through music, dance and drama. Visit the traditional healer and learn about different herbal medicines used to treat and heal diseases. Return to the lodge to mark the end of the day.
