During this 4 Days Rwanda Chimps & golden Monkeys tour, you will trek our close relatives the chimpanzees and rare primates – Golden monkeys. In addition to this, visit the Ibyiwacu village Centre where you will have a chance to taste one of richest African cultures.
Visit some of the city-based attractions in Kigali such as the genocide memorial site, art and gallery centers, craft markets and more. Also, during this tour, visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo – two amazing water bodies in the land of a thousand hills.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park from Kigali with a stopover at the former presidential palace museum.
Pick up from any agreed point in Kigali city and transfer to Nyungwe National Park, a renowned national park sheltering up to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees. Have a stopover at the former presidential palace museum and learn how president Habyarimana was killed from plane crush. Enjoy the surroundings of Nyungwe on arrival and this will mark the end of your first day.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and head to Volcanoes National Park
Head for briefing at the park offices about chimp trekking adventure. You will be told about what you need before undertaking this great adventure such as dressing in appropriate trekking attire, enough drinking water, energy-giving snacks, a rain jacket, camera and binoculars.
The Park guide will take you into the forest to start the search together with the porters. Meeting a group of chimps creates everlasting memories as you spend an hour in their presence. Other primates can be spotted such as the colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons and many more.
Head to Volcanoes national park in the afternoon, a historical national park in Africa known for inhabiting the rare endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. It has diverse biodiversity including mammals, bird species, plant species, reptiles and many others. Arrive and head to the lodge.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and visiting the Gorilla Guardians Village
Like any other park activity, golden monkey trekking will commence immediately after breakfast and the briefing exercise. The park ranger guide will take you through this experience and you will be in a position to learn about the dos and don’ts to follow while trekking; the use of flashlights is recommended since these primates tend to draw closer, don’t feed the golden monkeys and other creatures you meet, don’t litter the park premises, etc. Start the search and head to bamboo forested areas and upon locating them, spend an hour in their presence to mark the end of this tour after returning to the lodge.
After lunch, head for a community tour within Ibyiwacu cultural village, also called the gorilla guardian village. Learn about the daily lifestyle of Rwandans through music, dance and drama. Visit the traditional healer and learn about different herbal medicines used to treat and heal diseases. Return to the lodge to mark the end of the day.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali international Airport
Leave Volcanoes national park in the morning and head to Kigali International Airport, passing through the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours with a short city tour.
Visit places like Rwanda genocide museum, local markets, and art and galleries, etc. This tour will grant you a chance to buy some souvenirs.
