This 2-day Rwanda gorilla tour offers a memorable visit to Volcanoes National Park in just two days, with enough time to relax and explore.
Unlike the 1-day tour, this package allows time on the first day for a Kigali city tour, transfer to Volcanoes National Park, and rest. The second day is reserved for an exciting mountain gorilla experience before your departure.
It is the shortest possible Rwanda gorilla safari for travelers who want to see gorillas but have limited time.
This gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda can be arranged in any travel category, budget, mid-range, or luxury depending on your choice. However, we recommend mid-range or luxury options since there are few quality budget lodges near Volcanoes National Park.

Detailed 2-Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival, meet your driver-guide at Kigali International Airport. Begin with a short Kigali city tour, including a visit to cultural centers, craft shops, and the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Monument to learn about Rwanda’s history.
Lunch will be at Hotel Mille Collines, known from the “Hotel Rwanda” movie. Later, transfer to Ruhengeri (Musanze) with scenic views of Rwanda’s hills and volcanoes along the way.
Arrive at Volcanoes National Park in the evening for dinner and overnight rest as you prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking in Rwanda.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Departure
After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters in Kinigi by 7:30 am for a briefing about gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. You will be assigned a gorilla family and receive safety and trekking guidelines from park rangers.
Begin your trek through the forest to find the gorillas. The experience may take 2 to 8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find them, spend one hour observing and taking photos as they eat, play, and care for their young.
After trekking, return to the park office to receive your gorilla trekking certificate, then transfer back to Kigali for your departure flight.
