1-Day Mount Bisoke Hiking Tour – Hiking Mount Bisoke in a 1-day tour is one of the most rewarding adventures in Africa, suitable for both beginners and expert hikers.
This 1-Day Mount Bisoke Climbing Tour takes you to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, located in the Virunga Conservation Area.
Mount Bisoke is shared between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, but its highest peak, standing at 12,175 feet above sea level, is in Rwanda.
If you are interested in gorilla trekking, you can opt for a 2-day safari. However, this hike may offer a chance to spot mountain gorillas, as these primates live on the slopes of Mount Bisoke, though sightings are not guaranteed.
Detailed 1-Day Mount Bisoke Hiking Tour Itinerary
Your driver-guide will pick you up early in the morning from your hotel and take you to Volcanoes National Park for a briefing.
The briefing, starting at 7:00 am, will cover the dos and don’ts for the hike, the option to hire porters for carrying extra luggage, and essential information about the climb and Mount Bisoke.
At 8:00 am, transfer to the starting point and begin your hike through montane forests to the summit.
The hike takes about 4 to 5 hours. Along the way, you may spot various primates, and if lucky, you could see a family of mountain gorillas on the lower slopes.
During the hike, the park guide may share stories about the Karisoke Research Centre, established by Dian Fossey, a primatologist who dedicated her life to mountain gorilla conservation.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at the summit while taking in the amazing views, then descend back to the starting point. The descent offers excellent opportunities for photography.
After the hike, your driver-guide will take you back to Kigali, a journey of about 3 hours, and drop you off at an agreed location.
