Detailed 10-Day Bale Mountains Trekking Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Ethiopia
You will be picked up and transported to an overnight hotel upon your arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
Spend the night at the Hotel Lobelia or a comparable establishment.
Day 2: Flight to Bale Mountains
After you arrive at Bale Mountains, drive to the park headquarters and meet your guide.
Walk through Park H.Q. afterward for a chance to see endemic and endangered mammals like Menilik’s Buchbuck, Mountain Nyala, Warthog, Reedbuck, Gray Duikers, and Baboons.
Additionally, the juniper woodlands of Bale Mountains Headquarters are home to endemic Ethiopian birds like the Abyssinian cat bird, Wattled Ibis, and Black-headed siskin.
Dinsho Campsite (3100 meters above sea level) is where you will spend the night.
Day 3: Trek To Adelay
We are going to hike 16 kilometers today to reach the Adelay campground from Dinsho /parkHQ/.
Travel through the Gaysay Grassland to see most of the Antelope families, such as the Menilik Bushbuck and Mountain Nyala, before you reach the forested sections of the national park.
Spend the night at the Adelay 3400 masl campsite.
Day 4: Trek Adelay to Sodota Campsite
After breakfast in the morning, we set out on our roughly 18-kilometer hike to Sodota.
Traverse the stunning Web Valley landscape from Adelay towards the FinchaHabera waterfall, which marks the confluence of the Wolla and Web rivers.
The likelihood of seeing raptors, rock hyrax, endemic Ethiopian wolves, and native birds like the blue-winged goose is very high in this area.
You’ll be thrilled about this and amazed by the Bale Mountains’ true wilderness.
You’ll have a lovely coffee/tea break when you get to the campsite.

Day 5: Trek Sodota to wasema
Take a hike to Wasama through this gorgeous region, which offers breathtaking views.
Cross the Mararo Valley, which is the location of the Lammergeyer and Verraux Eagle nests.
Following a 6-7 hour hike, there’s a good chance of seeing a variety of birds and an Ethiopian wolf.

Day 6: Trek Wasema to Rafu

The mountains have also been severely sculpted by the ice age and its glaciers, but the walk between Wasamaa and Rafu truly brings out the influence of the volcano.

Day 8: Drive to Harenna Forest
Following breakfast, head to the camp to meet the car and make your way to the Harenna Forest, the country’s second-largest tropical rain-forest.
There’s a chance you’ll see rare and endangered canid species along the route, like the Ethiopian wolf and the Abyssinian hare, as well as water birds like the blue-winged goose, wattled crane, and ruddy shell duck.
After that, hike to a water fall and the Bamboo Trail in the forest.
