Detailed 4-Day Bale Mountains Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Flight Addis Ababa – Bale Mountains
Take an early flight from Addis to Robe in the Bale Mountains.
We will take a quick stroll through the park’s woodland area after arriving at the Bale Mountains Headquarters in the afternoon.
Examine the surrounding area and wildlife.
Apart from the many endemic birds of Ethiopia and Abyssia, this area is also frequently visited by warthogs, the native Mount Nyala, Bohor Reedbuck, and Menelik’s Bushbuck.
With an elevation range of 9,500 feet to 14,360 feet, the Bale Mountains contain the largest area of high moorland in Africa.
In order to protect the Mountain Nyala, which is unique to this planet, they were declared a national park and are essentially uninhabited, pure, and unspoiled.
It’s wide and verdant, with bogs, crags, and rocky peaks, as well as numerous small lakes, an incredible quantity of heathland, and cloud forests!
The park is home to Mount TulluDimtu, one of Ethiopia’s highest peaks at 4,377 meters above sea level.
For the night, Tokuma Hotel.
Day 2: Explore Bale Mountains Sanneti Plateau
Today, we’ll drive through the Bale Mountains National Park, spending as much time as possible exploring the high-altitude Sanetti Plateau.
The Sanetti Plateau is your destination after breakfast.
With the rising of the sun, the hunt begins for the Ethiopian wolf, the most endangered canid in the world.
One of Africa’s best all-weather routes, the winding road around the plateau is a great place to observe this elegant animal.
On the plateau in Ethiopia is the best spot to see it.
The plateau is home to a variety of rodents, the largest of which is the enormous molerat, which is exclusive to the Bale Mountains.
During your tour, you will stop at Tulu Dimtu, also referred to as the “Red Mountain.”
The highest point in the park is 4,377 meters, which is this peak.
Book a hotel room for the night.
Day 3: Explore Bale Mountains Harenna Forest
Following breakfast in the morning, if the weather permits, which is infamously unpredictable in this area, drive to Harenna Forest, which sits atop the majestic Harenna Escarpment.
Situated in the country, The Forest is the second largest rain forest.
Rira is a small settlement at the base of an escarpment.
An easy two-hour walk through the forest is an option if you’re feeling especially adventurous.
Alternatively, just take a break and chill with some local cuisine.
Keep going through two nearly stacked waterfalls and a bamboo-lined canyon.
Keep an eye out for the elusive Bale monkey and the colobus, which is black and white.
Spend the night at the Hotel Tokuma.
Day 4: Flight Back to Addis
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your morning flight back to Addis.
