Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Virunga National Park
Have a briefing about the tour and then transfer to Virunga national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This park is home to mountain gorillas the gentle giants. This protected area gets its name from the Virunga massif. It is also home to Mt Nyirangongo which is the most active mountain in Africa with a boiling lava lake. Arrive in the evening and drive to the lodge
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
Head for briefing after a delicious breakfast and this will cover important notes such as gorilla trekking rules and regulations, checking of the valid gorilla trekking permits, allocation of the park ranger guide to take you around the forest and many more others. Later on, start the search with a help of researchers, porters and park guides and while in the forest, meet other wildlife such as varvet monkeys, olive baboons, red-tailed monkeys and also, different bird species. Meet the gorilla family and take photos, and record memorable videos as the gorillas are breastfed young ones, feed and play. After the experience, head back to the lodge for your late lunch and leisure.
Day 3: Ascend Mt Nyirangongo
Wake up and take Breakfast at around 7:00 am after, the driver guide will take you to Kibati gate where you will receive briefing and hiking tips. In case you have extra luggage, hire a local porter that will help you to carry some. Hiking will begin at around 10:00 am with the supervision of the park ranger guides and local guides. As you hike meet other wild animals such as colobus monkeys, varvet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and different birds not forgetting the bird species. Arrive at the summit that stands at 4,370m above sea level and this offers the best of a lava-boiling lake offering beautiful photographic moments. Head to the camp where you will spend the night. Tourists are advised to carry headlight lamps and sleeping bags for the best night experience.
Day 4: Descend and transfer back to Kigali
On this last day, wake up pretty early and take your breakfast which will be followed by descending to the base gate. Descending is easier and more fun since it involves the use of more breaks than energy while ascending. Reach the Kibati gate and check out as you meet again the driver guide that will take you back to Kigali with en-route stopover for lunch.
