Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park

You will be picked up from Kigali International Airport and transferred to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. On the way, enjoy views of the hills and green vegetation. Your guide will help you cross the Goma border without any problem. You will arrive in the evening and go straight to the lodge inside the park for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking

After breakfast, take a short drive to the park office for a briefing. The park guide will explain important information about the gorillas. You will also learn the rules to follow while in the forest, such as: do not feed wild animals, keep a safe distance from the gorillas, and avoid eating or drinking in front of them.

Trekking begins with other visitors and park rangers. Once a gorilla family is found, you will spend one hour with them and take photos. The group is led by a male gorilla called a silverback, and during your visit, you may see him displaying his leadership. After the trek, return to the lodge and relax as you prepare for the next day’s hike.

Day 3: Hike Mount Kahuzi & Mount Biega

After breakfast, you will return to the park office for a briefing before the hike. Some of the hiking rules include: do not litter, stay close to your guide, and avoid loud noise. The hike will take half a day and you will enjoy a picnic lunch at the summit. Mount Kahuzi is 3,308 meters above sea level, and Mount Biega is 2,790 meters high.

While hiking, enjoy the landscape and forest that is home to many animals. You might see primates and, if lucky, more lowland gorillas. After the hike, descend and return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Head back to Kigali and fly home

After breakfast, leave Kahuzi-Biega National Park and drive back to Kigali, Rwanda. Enjoy the views along the way. You will have lunch on the way and then proceed to the airport for your flight. This marks the end of your tour.
