Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda from Kigali
Be welcomed by a professional driver guide that will take you through a briefing about this great 4 days Congo lowland gorillas and Nyungwe chimp tour. Later on, pack your belongings and head to Nyungwe National Park which is known to host the 13 primates including the chimps that are the largest in this park. You will have an optional canopy walk on your arrival and this will depend on the arrival time. Check-in at the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and transfer to Bukavu/Kahuzi-Biega national park
Head for the first experience of spending an hour in the presence of chimpanzees in their natural habitat. The experience will begin with a briefing where the dos and don’ts to follow while walking in the forest. Meet the chimps playing, jumping from one tree to another, feeding, playing searching for food, making different sounds and much more. Trekking lasts for 2 to 5 hours but an hour will be offered to you to spend while in the presence of the chimps. There are other attractions that you will meet while in the forest such as vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red colobus monkeys, Grey checked mangabeys and many more others.
After the great chimpanzee experience, head to the park office for debriefing and then transfer to Bukavu Town or Kahuzi-Biega national park after lunch. This will be after crossing to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Check in the accommodation for rest.
Day 3: Lowland gorilla trekking
Take a drive to the park offices of Kahuzi-Biega national park for a briefing, you will be told about what to follow while in the forest to protect yourself and the wildlife. Among the rules and regulations include don’t feed wild animals, don’t throw rubbish in the forest, always keeping a distance of about 10m from the gorillas, taking photos, avoid using a flashlight. And many more others. Trekking will commence under the great supervision of the park ranger guide who will be well-armed.
On locating the gorillas, spend an hour with them but the overall experience takes about 2 to 8 hours. You will take photos, and enjoy the best of the largest great apes in the world. Watch them move, feed, breastfeed young ones and much more. You will later head to the lodge to share your great moments.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali, and fly home
Head back to Kigali after breakfast at the lodge, and be dropped at the airport and this will mark the end of the tour.
