3 Days Mount Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking/Climbing Tour Congo

This 3-day Nyiragongo hike starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda. This safari is one of the most exciting and rewarding activities in Congo. Nyiragongo is one of the few active volcanoes in the Virunga region.

Hiking to the top of this mountain gives you a chance to see many beautiful things like flowers, different birds for bird watchers, butterflies, some primates, and at the summit, you will have a great view of Virunga National Park and other beautiful scenes. Remember, to take part in this activity, you need to be physically fit to enjoy it fully.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Lake Kivu (Gisenyi) and Boat Cruise

When you arrive, your driver guide will meet you at the airport or hotel, depending on your agreed location. You will get a briefing about the safari and then start your journey to Gisenyi. Gisenyi is on the shores of Lake Kivu. Enjoy a picnic lunch there.

After lunch, take a short boat ride on Lake Kivu for a fun adventure. Visit Coffee Island and the hot springs. Then continue your journey to DR Congo and proceed to Goma. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Hike Mount Nyiragongo

After breakfast, drive to the starting point at Kibati patrol post to meet your guide. The drive from Goma takes about 30 to 35 minutes. The guide will give you a briefing about the hike. The hike usually takes 5 to 6 hours to reach the summit and normally starts at 10:00 AM after the briefing and preparations.

During the hike, you will see many interesting creatures that will make your experience memorable. Have dinner and stay overnight at the summit.

Day 3: Descend and Drive Back to Kigali

On this day, have breakfast at the camping site before you start your descent. After reaching the base, meet your driver guide and begin the journey back to Kigali. Your driver will drop you at the airport or hotel, depending on your agreement. Then you will fly back home.
