Detailed 6-Day Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Kigali City Tour
Arrive at Kigali International Airport and meet your safari guide. After a briefing, transfer to your hotel for check-in and lunch. In the afternoon, explore Kigali’s main attractions, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Presidential Palace, and Kimironko Market. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Drive to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, meet your driver and begin a 2.5-hour journey to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda. This is Rwanda’s oldest park and the only savanna park where you can find the Big Five animals. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and relax. After lunch, go for an afternoon game drive to see animals such as elephants, zebras, lions, giraffes, and antelopes. Return to your lodge for dinner.
Day 3: Game Drive & Boat Cruise on Lake Ihema
Start your morning with a game drive through the park’s wildlife tracks. Look out for lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and antelopes. After lunch, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to see hippos, crocodiles, and birds such as fish eagles, herons, and kingfishers. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, leave Akagera and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southern Rwanda. Stop in Butare to visit the King’s Palace and the Ethnographic Museum. Have lunch, then continue to Nyungwe and check into your lodge. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the next day’s activities.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk
After breakfast, go to Uwinka Reception for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest. The trek lasts 2–4 hours, and you will spend one hour with the chimpanzees once found. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a canopy walk, the only one of its kind in East Africa, with panoramic views of the forest and sightings of birds and monkeys. Return to your lodge for dinner.
Day 6: Return to Kigali
After breakfast, check out and start your 6-hour drive back to Kigali City. Depending on your schedule, your driver can drop you at a hotel or directly at the airport for your flight home. This marks the end of your 6-Day Rwanda Safari tour.
