4 Days Congo Lowland Gorillas & Community Tour in Bukavu

Enjoy 4 days in Congo with a lowland gorilla trek and a community tour. This short safari takes you to Kahuzi-Biega National Park, the only place in the Democratic Republic of Congo where you can trek lowland gorillas. These gentle primates are among the most famous wildlife in D.R. Congo. The tour starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda, in East-Central Africa.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and pick-up

You will be warmly welcomed to the Land of a Thousand Hills. After a short briefing about your 4-day tour to Congo, you will meet your experienced driver guide.

You may take an optional city tour of Kigali before checking in at your hotel for evening relaxation and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Travel from Kigali to Bukavu (Congo)

After a good breakfast, your driver will pick you up from the hotel for a road trip to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This journey includes a border crossing from Rwanda to Congo.

Along the way, you will stop in Butare to visit the National Museum, the King’s Palace in Nyanza, and other places. After lunch, continue your journey to Bukavu and check in at your booked hotel or lodge.

Day 3: Lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi-Biega National Park

After breakfast, go to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules for trekking lowland gorillas. The trek begins at 8:00 am and can last between 2 to 5 hours, including one full hour spent with the gorillas. You will walk through the forest to find them.

After the trek, return for lunch and take some time to rest. Later, meet your guide again for a walk through the local community. You will also visit the Mbayo tea estates before returning to the lodge to relax.

Day 4: Return to Kigali and departure

Enjoy a good breakfast at your lodge. After checking out, meet your driver guide for the journey back to Kigali, Rwanda.
