5 Days Murchison Falls Wildlife & Kibale Forest Chimpanzee Trekking Safari

Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Today, meet your driver-guide at the pickup location for a briefing on what to expect in Uganda. After the briefing, begin the magnificent 5- to 6-hour drive to Murchison Falls.

En route, you’ll pass through bustling cities and observe locals conducting business among lush foliage.

Stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track southern white and black rhinos—the only place in Uganda where you can see and track rhinos in the wild.

Continue to Masindi for lunch, then proceed to your lodge for check-in, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Safari

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge, then embark on a 3- to 4-hour game drive across the northern region of Murchison Falls National Park.

As the largest national park in Uganda, Murchison Falls is home to diverse flora and fauna, including the whistling acacia tree and Egyptian geese, cranes, and other bird species.

With a bit of luck, you’ll encounter both prey and predators, including lions, leopards, African elephants, Cape buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, and various antelope species.

After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch. Around 2:00 pm, embark on a boat tour to the base of the world’s most powerful waterfall, where it thunders into the Nile through a 7-meter-wide gorge.

Look out for hippos, Nile crocodiles, shoreline elephants, and other wildlife. After an enjoyable cruise and photography, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to Kibale Forest National Park, home to more than 13 species of primates, the majority being chimpanzees.

With a lunch break en route, you’ll be on the road for approximately 6 to 7 hours. Check into your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay upon arrival.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Isunga Community Experience

After an early breakfast at the lodge, arrive at the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing, where a ranger guide will review trekking dos and don’ts, what to expect, and more.

Chimpanzee trekking can last from one to three hours, depending on the apes’ location as they play, rest, and feed.

You’ll also see other primates, including grey-cheeked monkeys, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys, along with diverse plant species and their uses.

Enjoy an hour of observation, photography, and studying the apes’ distinctive behaviors before returning to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, there is an optional cultural experience offered by the Isunga community. Led by a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll learn about the community’s history, enjoy music and dance, and gain insights into their culture.

The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Drop-Off

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the lodge, after which you’ll be picked up by your driver/guide for a transfer to Kampala or another pre-arranged drop-off location. Depending on the time available, you may tour Kampala, including stops at the museum and craft village for souvenirs. This marks the end of your 5-Day Kibale and Murchison Falls National Park Safari.
