Detailed 5-Day Mount Elgon Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Jinja
Set off to Jinja city after your delicious breakfast with a stopover at Mabira Forest to spot different primate species, birds, reptiles, and butterflies.
Afterward, continue the journey to Mount Elgon National Park through Mbale town.
Proceed and check in with the booked lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Mount Elgon Hike – Stop at Piswa Camp
Have your delicious breakfast and then start your hike to Kapkwata using the Kapkwata trail.
Continue up to Piswa, which is located at 2,850 meters above sea level.
You will pass through bamboo, moorland, and heath to get to this camp.
Check in with the camp for late lunch and relaxation.
Day 3: Hike up to Hunters’ Cave Camp
Wake up early in the morning and have your well-prepared breakfast to gain energy and start your hike up to Hunters’ Cave Camp.
Before you get to this point, you will pass through beautiful flowers and endemic plant species like Elgonensis, giant Lobelia, and many more.
You can visit the hot springs and Suam Gorge while at this point.
Stay for a night and dinner.
Day 4: Mude Cave Camp
On day 4 of this hike, you will wake up early in the morning for breakfast and start your hike again.
This day will be a very grateful and successful day of reaching the top of the hike, the Wagagai peak, which is at 4,321 meters above sea level.
Have a great view of beautiful and amazing sceneries, the green vegetation at the top, and many others.
Afterward, you will descend through Jackson Summit and Jackson Pool, then camp at Mude Cave Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Travel Back to Kampala
Wake up early this day, which is the last day of the 5-Day Mount Elgon Hiking Adventure.
As you wake up at Mude Cave Camp, have your breakfast and pack all your luggage, planning to slope down to the starting point.
You will use the Sasa trail to Budadiri trail, finally back to Mbale town.
After having your picnic lunch, we will embark on our journey to Kampala and be dropped at the hotel to relax, waiting for the time of the flight.
