Detailed 7-Day Mt Baker Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Base Camp to Sine Camp
Your trek begins at Trekkers Hostel in Kilembe, heading toward Sine Camp. Fit hikers can continue to Kalalama Camp for extra time at Mutinda Camp, where you can climb to the Mutinda Lookout.
The trek starts by passing through tall trees in the Afro-Montane Forest Zone. You’ll hear bird calls and might see groups of black and white colobus monkeys jumping through the trees.
Just 200 meters from Sine Camp are the beautiful Enock’s Falls. In the evening, relax by the campfire with your guides, learn about the Rwenzori Mountains, and enjoy the mountain atmosphere.
Day 2: Sine Camp to Kalalama Camp
Trekking starts at 8:30 am through the Bamboo-Mimulopsis Zone, where the path becomes steeper. During the rainy season, this area can be muddy and slippery, but the forest is peaceful and full of life.
Climb up to Kalalama Camp in the Heather-Rapanea Zone, and stop for a tea or coffee break. Continue toward Mutinda Camp, passing small ridges, streams, and waterfalls surrounded by thick vegetation.
In the afternoon, you can hike to the Mutinda Lookout for wide views of the Rwenzori Mountains, Kasese town, and Lake George.
Day 3: Kalalama Camp to Bugata Camp
The day’s trail crosses the Mutinda Valley, covered in tussock grass, lobelias, and everlasting flowers.
You will then climb a steep section into the Namusangi Valley, known for its waterfalls and views of Mutinda Peaks.
The valley is wide, and the path climbs gradually until you reach Bugata Camp, where you will spend the night surrounded by scenic mountain landscapes.
Day 4: Bugata Camp to Hunwick’s Camp
From Bugata Camp, trek to Hunwick’s Camp via the Bamwanjarra Pass.
On clear days, the pass offers fantastic views of the three main peaks of the Rwenzori range.
The trail continues with a few steep climbs before reaching Hunwick’s Camp, located high above a deep valley. From here, you can see Mount Stanley, Mount Baker, Weismann’s Peak, and McConnell’s Prong.
Day 5: Mount Baker Summit Day
This is the day you conquer Mount Baker.
Start early at 6:30 am for the 4.3 km ascent, which takes about 4–6 hours to the top and 2–3 hours to descend.
The climb is steep and rocky, so good fitness and comfort with heights are important. During the rainy months of April–May and September–October, the trail can be icy, so ropes will be used for safety.
After reaching the glacier, continue for about 300 meters to the summit of Mount Baker (4843m).
On a clear day, you’ll see Margherita Peak, Alexandria Peak, Stanley’s Plateau, and the glaciers of the Rwenzori range. It is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Uganda.
After taking photos, descend to McConnell’s Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: McConnell’s Camp to Kiharo Camp
The day starts with a climb up a ridge toward McConnell’s Prong, offering wide views of the main peaks and Scott Elliott’s Pass.
The trail then crosses below Weismann’s Peak to the Nyamwamba River, which flows through Kilembe and Kasese to Lake George.
You can choose to climb Weismann’s Peak for more panoramic views of Margherita Peak, Mount Stanley, Mount Speke, and Mount Baker.
Continue downhill to Kiharo Camp, set in a deep valley surrounded by cliffs and thick vegetation.
Day 7: Kiharo Camp to Base Camp
Today you’ll descend from Kiharo Camp to Kilembe Base Camp, covering about 15 kilometers.
The hike takes 5–8 hours, depending on fitness and weather. The trail follows the Nyamwamba Valley, offering views of moss-covered rocks, flowing rivers, and cascading waterfalls.
You’ll pass through lush forests and deep valleys before arriving at Base Camp, marking the end of your 7-Day Mount Baker Trekking Adventure.
By the end of the trek, you’ll carry home unforgettable memories of Uganda’s mountains, valleys, and natural beauty.
