Detailed Weismann’s Peak 5-Day Trekking Itinerary

5-Day Weismann's Peak Trek - Rwenzori Adventure

Day 1: Transfer to Base Camp

Travel to Kasese in the morning.

You will transfer from Kasese town to Rwenzori and arrive at the base camp for dinner and overnight at Ruboni Community Camp.

As the adventure begins, complete a briefing with your guides at Kilembe.

After a briefing with the local porters and guides, you will trek to Nyabitaba, where you will have lunch.

Then, you will hike through the forests of the Afro-montane forest zone.

This is a steady climb for about 6 km before passing through a steep section towards Sine Camp.

Trek for another two hours clockwise on the central circuit to Kichuchu Rock Shelter Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Base Camp to Kitandara Camp

Leave Kichuchu early in the morning and take the trail to Guy Yeoman.

After lunch at Guy Yeoman Camp, continue to Kitandara Camp, where you will spend the second night. Hike to Mutinda Camp, passing through the Bamboo and Heather-Rapanea zones.

The trail meanders up over several small knolls along a ridge top before dropping down the side of the valley.

You cross several small streams and pass close to the moss-covered waterfalls.

Once you pass 3,000 meters, you’ll see unique plant species like Giant Heather covered in Usnea lichen.

Mutinda Camp is set near a small river and waterfall.

In the afternoon, you summit Mutinda Lookout.

Day 3: Kitandara Camp to Bugata Camp

Hike to Bugata Camp. The route passes through a beautiful valley full of plants, streams, and waterfalls.

The hiking gets tougher now, with some steep ridges, muddy and boggy sections, and higher steps.

The rewards are well worth it with the views from camp.

Day 4: Summit Weismann’s Peak

An early start today as you head for the summit of Weismann’s Peak.

After the summit hike, descend via a different route, which loops back around to the Nyamwamba Valley to Kiharo Camp.

Day 5: Descend to the Base

This trekking day on Rwenzori is dedicated to descending to the camp of Nyabitaba.

On the descent, there are some tricky points since the terrain is often slippery and boggy.

After Kichuchu Rock, the trail will become easier, passing through bamboo forests interesting to many bird watchers.

After these five days of trekking to Weissman’s Peak, you will get an opportunity to share the most memorable parts of your Weismann’s Peak 5-Day Trek.
