Luxury Gorilla Habituation Tours in Uganda – Rushaga Sector Experience

Luxury Gorilla Habituation

Planning to book luxury gorilla habituation tours? This is one of the best luxury gorilla trekking options we offer.

During the habituation process, researchers observe the behavior of each gorilla and give them names based on their character.

Although gorillas are calm and gentle, they can become aggressive if they feel unsafe. This is why people must act peacefully during the visit.

Tourists can take part in the gorilla habituation experience, which is only available in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. This experience lets you spend more time with the gorillas than regular trekking.

Gorilla habituation allows for four hours of observation, while normal trekking allows just one hour. This gives visitors more time to take photos and learn about how gorillas behave.

Unlike trekking, which allows up to eight people, gorilla habituation is limited to only four people.

The day begins early with a briefing at the park headquarters. After the briefing, visitors start their hike into the forest to find the gorilla family.

The time spent hiking depends on where the gorillas are and how fast the group can walk.

Luxury travelers can fly into Entebbe International Airport, then take a domestic flight to Kisoro Airstrip near the Rushaga sector. Flights are available from both Entebbe and Kajjansi Airfield.

Another option is to fly into Kigali in Rwanda and take a short drive into Uganda for the tour.

The Rushaga sector offers some of the best views in Bwindi. From here, you can see the Virunga volcanoes and the twin lakes, Lake Mutanda and Lake Mulehe.

Luxury Accommodation & Permits

There are many luxury lodges in the Rushaga area. Some of them include:

  • Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge
  • Chameleon Hill Lodge
  • Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge
  • Gorilla Heights Lodge
  • Gorilla Leisure Lodge
  • Four Gorillas Lodge
  • Rushaga Gorilla Camp

Gorilla habituation permits cost $1,500 per person, while regular trekking permits cost $800 per person.

Permits are in high demand and should be booked 3 to 6 months in advance.

Children under 15 years and adults with infectious diseases are not allowed to trek with the gorillas.

The best time for gorilla habituation in Uganda is during the dry months from June to September and December to February. During these times, the trails are easier to walk on because they are not too muddy or slippery.
