Detailed 2-Day Rwanda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport & Transfer to Akagera National Park

On your first day, your safari driver-guide will pick you up from the airport or hotel and give a short briefing about your Rwanda safari. You will then start the drive to Akagera National Park, which takes about 6 to 7 hours.

Upon arrival, check in to your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, drive to Lake Ihema for a boat cruise in Akagera National Park. You will first receive a short briefing before starting the cruise.

While on the lake, look out for hippos, crocodiles, and several bird species such as ducks, kingfishers, and hamerkops. The boat cruise lasts about 2 hours. After the activity, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 2: Game Drive & Transfer Back to Kigali

Start your day with breakfast and get ready for a game drive in Akagera National Park. Head to the park office for a briefing, where a park ranger will join you to guide and protect you during the drive.

During the game drive, you will see wildlife such as elephants, rhinos, buffalos, giraffes, lions, leopards, warthogs, and zebras. The drive lasts about 2 hours, and you will explore the open savannah and woodland areas.

After the game drive, return to your lodge for lunch and prepare for the journey back to Kigali. Depending on your arrival time and flight schedule, you can take an optional short Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center.
