This 3-day lowland gorilla trekking safari in the Democratic Republic of Congo will take you to some amazing places. You will meet one of the closest primates to humans, the lowland gorillas, which share 96% of DNA with us, after chimpanzees.
These gorillas are only found in Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo in all of Africa. The safari includes several stops for taking photos, enjoying good views, and having lunch.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Depart Kigali and Drive to Bukavu
Depending on the agreed meeting place, your polite driver guide will warmly welcome you and give a briefing about the safari. You will start your drive toward the Democratic Republic of Congo.
On the way, you will enjoy the beauty of Rwanda’s hills, mountains, and clean environment. You will stop in Bukavu town for a picnic lunch, then continue to your booked lodge to rest and prepare for the lowland gorilla trekking.
Day 2: Lowland Gorilla Trekking & Optional Activities
Lowland gorillas live only in Kahuzi-Biega National Park. After a good breakfast, you will drive to the park office for a briefing by the ranger guide. Then you will start your trek into the forest to look for the gorillas.
You will spend one hour with the gorillas, watching their behavior, taking photos, and enjoying their company. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you have the choice to take a nature walk in the park to spot other primates, birds, plants, and other interesting wildlife. Or, you can take a community walk and visit Bukavu town and Mbayo tea estates. You will then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Return to Kigali
After breakfast, check out from the lodge and start your journey back to Kigali. You will have lunch on the way. If time allows, you can take a short city tour in Kigali and visit some local places or craft shops to buy souvenirs.
At the end of the day, your driver guide will drop you off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your 3-day safari to the DRC.
