This itinerary allows you to photograph the Toposa tribe and the Jie/Jye tribal people, attracting photographers from all over the world.
Experience the unique and often moving cultural South Sudan Tour, where ancient cultural rituals clash with preconceived traveler expectations.
The Toposa tribe and the Jiye tribe belong to the so-called Karamojong Cluster, which includes the people of the Karamojong tribe in Uganda, the people of the Nyangatom tribe in southwest Ethiopia, and the people of the Turkana tribe in Kenya.
Toposa society and social life revolve around herding cattle and camels, as well as donkeys, goats, sheep, and other animals.
Boys are trained to take care of goats and sheep, and then to take care of cattle when they grow up.
The main measures of status and wealth are the possession of cattle and the loaded gun. Toposa people have always competed with their neighbors for water and pasture, and they have always been involved in cattle raiding.
Toposa people also hunt for gold and other valuable minerals in the stream bed. Both the Toposa tribe and the Jiye tribe dress in traditional clothes, and they pierce their lips and scar their arms, chest, and face.
Each scarification is a work of art.
