This 8-day, 7-night Mundari/Dinka Cattle cultural tour is designed to take you to places that have a special draw for photographers.
Photography through geography is what this tour is all about.
This South Sudan tour will provide you with the opportunity to experience two of South Sudan’s most diverse tribes: the Dinka People and Mundari.
Many people migrate to the capital of South Sudan, Juba, but the majority of Dinka and Mundari people are still nomadic pastoralists, and their cattle camps – often with 500 head or more cattle – provide a fascinating glimpse into their way of life.
Their cattle are the main source of wealth and prestige, and when pastures become scarce, this is often the cause of conflict or migration.
The Mundari cattle camps and Dinka cattle camps have more than 500 cows and offer a fascinating glimpse into one of the most populous and arguably the most influential of South Sudan’s tribes.
The Dinka and Mundari are among the most prominent pastoral tribes in the country, and visiting one of their cattle camps, with young boys and cattle living side-by-side, is an opportunity to see the fundamental role these animals play in their community.

Detailed Mundari and Dinka Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Hotel Transfer
Upon arrival at the Juba International Airport in the capital of the world’s youngest nation, South Sudan, a guide will pick you up at the Airport and take you to the Hotel in Juba where you will spend the night.
Depending on the time of your arrival, we will take you on a short Juba City tour to the largest market in South Sudan, Konyo konyo.
During the tour, you will get an overview of South Sudan’s diverse communities in terms of their dress and facial or body scars. Finally, you will have dinner and spend the night at the Royal Palace Hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to Mundari Cattle Camp
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred from Juba on a 4-hour drive away from Juba. After lunch, we’ll go to a local Restaurant called “Naivasha”.
While it’s technically a lake and a town in Kenya, it has historical ties to South Sudan because it’s the town where the peace talks that led to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the government and the rebels (the SPLM/A) took place.
We’ll then introduce ourselves to state government officials (although they’ll know we’re coming) before driving to Mundari’s cattle camp, where you’ll spend two days.
This camp will be perfect for photography, especially during the evenings and mornings when the cattle come back from grazing.
After that, it’s off to dinner and then overnight camping, with tents close to the cattle camp.
