Also known as a cultural oasis in Kigali, this center of first-class information about traditions, culture and beliefs of Rwanda has seen many days with its golden years that are not specifically known but the saying old is gold is clearly displayed at the oldest cultural center in Rwanda is mind- relaxing.
Uniqueness of Murugo Cultural Centre
One of the peculiar things at this cultural center is that it provides accommodation to its visitors. A well-polished room with four bedrooms is present in the premises giving chance to at least 4 guests to rest and relax after a long-day city tour or gorilla trek in Volcanoes national park.
Children aged two years and below are not permitted into these premises. Therefore, parents should account for their children before coming to the cultural center to prevent disappointments.
Children and pets are slightly similar in a way that they are both playful and just like children, even pets are prohibited from the premises of this beautiful cultural center. Above these, smoking is also prohibited within this cultural center’s premises.

Cultural dances and performances
Watching talented Rwandans swing their hands in the air back and forth, dressed in ancient-like clothes is an exhilarating sight and visitors are easily prompted to join in the dance.
Cultural drumming
Sounds of the drums are ancient melodies that take tourists back in the olden days that they weren’t part of but can witness. Drumming is done in different styles depending on the occasion; whether marriage ceremonies, hunting and harvesting drumming and others are all different from one another and each provides a rare kind of joy to visitors.
Exploring traditional tools
Just like other historical centers, exhibiting famous traditional tools like animal hides, hunting sticks, drums and weapons like arrows, bows, spears are what attracts majority of the tourists into this cultural center as they are eager to find out the history of these weapons and tools and how they were used.
Watch art paintings and sculptures
Watching artistic paintings on the wall is a mind triggering and exciting activity as these paintings are made in a way that they portray a specific traditional theme, pushing tourists to interpret what the painter was portraying. Watching paintings of women winnowing, cooking in well artistically painted drawings on walls is just what the cultural center offers.

When to visit?
Tourists are welcomed into this country of interlocking hills and mountains throughout the year but should put into account that itineraries with gorilla trekking are best for the dry seasons.
Also note that all cultural centers are closed on public days like the day of remembering genocide, Independence Day, Umuganda day etc.
Location of Murugo cultural center
Rwanda’s popular cultural collection is found in the capital of Kigali. A drive through street KK 569 and suite 79 in particular found just five kilometers away from Kigali city center, abutted by Rwarutabura in the southeast and Mugatenga in the southwest, tourists are destined to this collection of wondrous culture of indigenous Rwandans, that is barely 2.5km away from the renowned presidential palace museum.
