The Buziba and Rwempasha border posts are among the newly gazetted border posts between Uganda and Rwanda. In 2007, Rwanda and Uganda governments agreed to create new land border points, leading to gazettement of Buziba and Rwempasha border posts.
Rwempasha is a border post near Kizinga, located in Ntungamo district and Buziba is at the border with Kamwezi in Rukiga district – Southwestern Uganda. The creation of these border posts was a result of an agreement between two countries -Uganda and Rwanda. The borders were created mainly to ease cross-border business transactions, tourism and travel, trade and immigration.
The addition of Buziba and Rwempasha border posts increases number of border posts on the Uganda-Rwanda borders. The popular and already existed borders include Katuna in Kabale district, Cyanika in Kisoro district and Mirama hills in Ntungamo district.
Katuna border serves as the main entry and exit point of Rwandan exports and import goods. This is a 24/7 border post, and it was created to ensure smooth business operation and tourism between two countries – Uganda and Rwanda. Katuna is approximately 500km south of Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Katuna offers easy access from Rwanda to Kabale and vice-verse. It is ideal for not only business travelers but also contributes much toward tourism and travel often used to connect to popular national parks like Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga and Volcanoes national park for mountain gorilla trekking.
