Do you want to stay at Hôtel des Mille Collines? Most people know about the film Hotel Rwanda, which featured Don Cheadle and depicted events reflecting the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, carried out by the Hutu majority against the Tutsi minority. Paul Rusesabagina, a well known hotelier, played a significant role in sheltering victims at the hotel during that period.
The hotel featured in the film really exists, although the actual filming took place in South Africa. Relationships formed among those staying at the hotel, with some even getting married, officiated by a priest who was also sheltering there.
About 1,200 people were sheltered at the hotel during the genocide.
