Bwindi eco children’s home

Bwindi eco children’s home was founded in 2013 by Francis Byamukama who grew up from a poor background though he later became a grade 3 teacher and observed various children who passes the same condition he was in years ago.

Francis had the urge to help this kids but his salary earnings could not sustain all the children he wanted to help so he went back to school and studied bachelors in social works and administration, after graduating he returned home to his community to start up a programs in order to help all the poor children in his village to attend school.

With community support today, Bwindi eco children’s home supports, full time, residential and care to over 60 orphans and offers education to over 400 children in his community. This is one of the successful charity organizations you can visit while in Bwindi national park.

The Kellerman foundation

The Kellerman foundation was founded in 2004 by Scot Kellermann and his wife Carol. Scot is a California based family physician and tropical medicine specialist, they visited Uganda in 2000 with an Episcol Medical Missions Foundations to assess the needs of the Batwa pygmies of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.

The Kellermans started with treating about 200-300 pygmies under trees daily and later on built a clinic which has now grown Bwindi community hospital and one of the biggest hospitals in Uganda. They focused on learning the language and customs of Batwa people by building relationships, sharing the gospel, creating community development projects and helped in building homes for the Batwa people.

Ride for a woman

Ride for a woman Bwindi was set up to help women struggling with domestic violence, poverty and HIV. They first started by renting out bicycles until they upgraded to accommodation, weaving and sewing. They organize biking safaris within and outside Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.

Change a life Bwindi was set up to help people around Ruhijja come out of poverty, there different projects set up to empower the community to build secure and sustainable future for themselves and Bwindi national park.

Best time to visit Bwindi

Bwindi impenetrable forest national park can be visited all year round but the best time for visiting especially if you will trek gorillas is from June to September and December when the roads and trekong trails are in good condition. But visiting the charity organizations can be done all year round.
