The Buziba and Rwempasha border posts are among the newer border points between Uganda and Rwanda. In 2007, the governments of Rwanda and Uganda agreed to create new land border posts, which led to the establishment of Buziba and Rwempasha.
Rwempasha is a border post near Kizinga, located in Ntungamo District, while Buziba sits at the border with Kamwezi in Rukiga District, in southwestern Uganda.
These border posts were created as part of an agreement between Uganda and Rwanda aimed at making cross-border business, tourism, trade, and immigration easier.
The addition of Buziba and Rwempasha adds to the overall number of border posts along the Uganda-Rwanda border.
Other well established borders include Katuna in Kabale District, Cyanika in Kisoro District, and Mirama Hills in Ntungamo District.
Katuna Border
Katuna serves as the main entry and exit point for Rwandan export and import goods. It operates 24 hours a day to support smooth business operations and tourism between Uganda and Rwanda. Katuna is about 500 kilometers south of Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Katuna provides easy access from Rwanda to Kabale and back, making it important for both business travelers and tourists.
It is often used to connect to popular national parks such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, and Volcanoes National Park for mountain gorilla trekking.
Cyanika Border
The Cyanika border provides easy access between Rwanda and Uganda through Kisoro. It is ideal for travelers interested in gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, and volcano hiking in Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park.
