Detailed 5-Day Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Your 5-Day Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi National Park Safari begins with pick-up from your hotel in Entebbe by a professional safari guide. The drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda takes about seven hours.

You will stop for lunch at Igongo Cultural Hotel in Mbarara, where you can enjoy delicious local food served by a friendly team. After lunch, visit the Ankole cultural museum to learn about traditional life and ancient artifacts.

Continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park and check in at your lodge upon arrival. Relax as you take in the park’s views before enjoying dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

After an early breakfast, start your day with a morning game drive in the northern plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The park is home to elephants, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, hyenas, elands, and many other species. Take time to watch and photograph these animals.

Return to the lodge for lunch, then head out for an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward.

You will see hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, and many bird species along the shoreline. In the evening, return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park with a Visit to Ishasha Sector

After breakfast, travel south to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This area is well known for its tree-climbing lions, often seen resting in large fig trees.

After lunch, continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its mountain gorillas.

The drive takes about five hours through rolling hills and countryside. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and enjoy dinner and overnight rest as you prepare for the gorilla trek the next day.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, meet at the park headquarters for a briefing by the rangers on the rules and guidelines of gorilla trekking.

You will then begin your hike through dense forest and steep hills to find a gorilla family. Once found, spend an hour observing these gentle giants as they feed, play, and interact.

Return to your lodge for lunch and rest. In the evening, you may take an optional nature walk with a ranger to spot birds and black and white colobus monkeys before returning for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer Back to Entebbe International Airport

On your final day, enjoy an early breakfast before checking out of the lodge. Begin the drive back to Entebbe International Airport, which takes around nine to ten hours.

You will stop at the Equator monument in Kayabwe for photos and a simple experiment that shows how water moves differently in each hemisphere.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the airport for your departure flight.
