Detailed 4-Day Rwanda Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park from Kigali with a Stopover at the Former Presidential Palace Museum

You will be picked up from your agreed location in Kigali and travel to Nyungwe National Park, one of the oldest rainforests in East Africa. It is home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and mangabeys.

Stop at the Former Presidential Palace Museum to learn about Rwanda’s history and the story of President Habyarimana’s plane crash. Continue your journey to Nyungwe, check into your lodge, and relax for the evening.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, attend a briefing about chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest. You will be guided by a park ranger and supported by porters. The trek may take 2 to 3 hours, and once you find the chimpanzees, you will spend one hour observing and taking photos.

You may also see other primates such as colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and olive baboons. After the activity, drive north to Volcanoes National Park, known for mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Check into your lodge and relax for the night.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking & Visit to the Gorilla Guardians Village

Start your day with breakfast and a briefing at the park headquarters about golden monkey trekking. A ranger will explain trekking guidelines before you begin your forest walk. Once you find the monkeys, spend one hour watching them play, jump, and feed in the bamboo forest. Return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, also called the Gorilla Guardians Village, to learn about Rwandan traditions. Enjoy traditional music, dance, and storytelling. Meet local healers and learn about herbal medicine. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer Back to Kigali International Airport

After breakfast, leave Volcanoes National Park and travel back to Kigali City, passing by the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Enjoy the views along the way. Once in Kigali, visit the Genocide Memorial, art galleries, and local markets for souvenirs. You will then be dropped off at Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your 4-Day Rwanda Tour.
