Detailed 4-Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Arrive at Kigali International Airport, where your guide will welcome you. Have lunch and a short Kigali city tour, visiting the Gisozi Genocide Memorial, craft markets, and art centers. In the afternoon, drive to Volcanoes National Park, located in northern Rwanda. Check in at your lodge for dinner and rest as you prepare for gorilla trekking the next day.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking & Twin Lakes Visit
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing starting at 7:30 am. Learn about trekking rules and be assigned a gorilla family group. The trek may take 2–8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find them, spend one hour observing and taking photos. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.
In the afternoon, visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo to enjoy scenic views before heading back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Dian Fossey Hike & Iby’Iwacu Cultural Visit
After breakfast, take part in the Dian Fossey hike to visit her gravesite and research center at Karisoke. The hike takes 2–4 hours and offers great insight into Fossey’s conservation work and her fight to protect mountain gorillas. After lunch, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience Rwanda’s culture through traditional music, dances, and storytelling. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking & Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, go for golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park. The trek can take up to 5 hours, including one hour of close observation once you find the monkeys. These primates are playful and often found in bamboo forests. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and then travel back to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
