Titus Gorilla Family – The Titus mountain gorilla family can be trekked in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. The group was named after the silverback Titus, who led the family.
Titus was born in 1974 and was one of the gorillas Dian Fossey studied at the Karisoke Research Institute.
Titus went through a difficult time when most of his family members were killed by poachers, leaving him to be raised by non-relatives. Dian Fossey noted that Titus also had breathing problems, but he overcame these challenges.

Titus grew up and eventually drove away the dominating silverback Beetsme. For eight years, he led the group without females, during which time researchers observed homosexual behavior until females from other families joined the group.
Later, Titus faced challenges from his son Kuryama, who eventually broke away to form his own family. Titus was known for having many offspring and leading one of the largest gorilla families in Volcanoes National Park.
If you have faced challenges and overcome them, visiting the Titus gorilla family in Volcanoes National Park can be inspiring.
