Colobus Monkey Trekking in Nyungwe Forest: Complete Guide

Colobus monkey trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park, Rwanda, is a rewarding activity, and permits are affordable for tourists. Nyungwe Forest is home to about 13 species of primates, and among these, the forest is best known for its chimpanzees, which dominate the area.

The forest is located south of the Virunga region. It has many tall trees, along with montane vegetation and bamboo, which serve as feeding areas for some of the primates. The forest is also home to smaller animals like mongooses and larger animals such as elephants, along with a wide variety of plants and birds that live and breed there.

The total number of colobus monkeys in Nyungwe is about 400.

These monkeys include both black and white colobus monkeys. Trekkers often encounter other monkey species in the forest, such as red-faced monkeys.
