Detailed 15-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary

15 Days Uganda Primates, Wildlife & Leisure Safari Tour

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park

Start your safari with a drive to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area, split by the Nile River.

Stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino trekking, depending on your travel time.

The park is home to four of the Big Five animals and is named after Murchison Falls, the world’s strongest waterfall.

Arrive in the park and check into your lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Murchison Falls

After breakfast, enjoy a game drive across the plains of Murchison Falls.

Look out for buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, and hartebeests.

After lunch, take a boat cruise on the Nile River to see crocodiles, hippos, and elephants along the riverbanks.

You will also view the mighty falls from below before returning to your lodge for dinner.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale National Park and Visit Isunga Cultural Community

After breakfast, travel to Kibale National Park, home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees.

Enjoy scenic views of forests, banana farms, and tea estates along the way.

Upon arrival, visit the Isunga Cultural Community to learn how locals grow and process coffee and tea.

Support the community by buying handmade crafts or local coffee.

Check into your lodge and enjoy an optional cultural dance from the Batooro and Bakiga people.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Swamp Walk

After breakfast, go for chimpanzee tracking with an experienced ranger.

You may also see red colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Spend an hour with the chimpanzees before heading back for lunch.

In the afternoon, take a Bigodi Swamp Walk, where you can spot primates, birds, and butterflies.

Day 5: Visit Sempaya Hot Springs and Amabere Ga’Nyinamwiru Caves

Drive to Semliki National Park to visit the Sempaya Hot Springs, where water boils at 100°C.

Take a short forest walk to spot colobus monkeys, baboons, and red-tailed monkeys.

Continue to Fort Portal to explore the Amabere Ga’Nyinamwiru Caves and Nyakasura Falls.

If time allows, hike Mweganywa Hill for beautiful crater lake views before returning to your lodge.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Game Drive

After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most visited park known for its rich wildlife.

On arrival, enjoy a short game drive with a ranger guide, then check into your lodge for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 7: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Safari

Start your day with an early morning game drive to spot lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and hyenas.

After lunch, enjoy a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George.

See hippos, crocodiles, and hundreds of water birds.

Day 8: Drive to Bwindi via the Ishasha Sector

After breakfast, drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Ishasha Sector, known for its tree-climbing lions.

Along the way, you may see elephants, topis, and antelopes.

Arrive at your lodge near Bwindi for dinner and relaxation.

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Cultural Experience

After breakfast, attend a briefing at the park office about gorilla trekking rules.

Hike into the forest with your ranger guide to find one of the gorilla families.

Spend one hour observing and taking photos of the gorillas.

After lunch, visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience.

Learn about their forest traditions, dances, and daily life.

Day 10: Drive to Mgahinga National Park and Batwa Cultural Trail

Drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda’s smallest national park, home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.

After lunch, join the Batwa Cultural Trail led by Batwa guides.

Learn about their hunting methods, herbal medicine, and forest survival skills.

Return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 11: Golden Monkey Trekking and Leisure

After breakfast, attend a short briefing about forest trekking guidelines.

Start your golden monkey trek through the bamboo forest and spend an hour watching and photographing these playful primates.

If lucky, you may also see gorillas on the same trail.

Return to your lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of the day.

Day 12: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and Boat Cruise

After breakfast, travel to Lake Bunyonyi, one of Africa’s deepest lakes, known for its small birds and beautiful islands.

Take a boat cruise to explore the 29 islands, including Punishment Island and Leprosy Island, each with its own story.

Day 13: Transfer to Lake Mburo with Stop at Igongo Cultural Centre

After breakfast, head to Lake Mburo National Park.

Stop at the Igongo Cultural Centre to taste local dishes and visit the museum showcasing Banyankole and Bakiga traditions.

Continue to the park and check into your lodge.

Day 14: Horseback Riding and Boat Safari

After breakfast, enjoy a horseback ride across the open savannahs, spotting impalas, zebras, buffaloes, and elands.

After lunch, take a boat safari on Lake Mburo to see hippos, crocodiles, and bird species such as fish eagles and kingfishers.

Day 15: Return to Kampala and Departure

After breakfast, drive back to Kampala.

Stop at the Uganda Equator for snacks, souvenir shopping, and fun photo moments.
