10-Day Rwanda Safari Highlights

Day 1: Pick-Up at the Airport & Transfer to the Hotel

Arrive at Kigali International Airport (KGL) and meet your professional safari guide. You will be welcomed to Rwanda, also known as the Land of a Thousand Hills. Transfer to your hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kigali to Akagera National Park

After breakfast, go for a Kigali city tour visiting top attractions such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, Kandt Museum, and local markets. Later, drive to Akagera National Park, check into your lodge, and enjoy a leisurely lunch. In the evening, take a short game drive in the savanna.

Day 3: Game Drive & Boat Cruise

Start your morning with coffee or tea, then take a game drive to see the Big Five animals, elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos plus zebras, giraffes, and antelopes. After lunch, go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, leave Akagera and travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southern Rwanda. Stop at Butare to visit the King’s Palace Museum and the National Museum of Rwanda. Have lunch and continue to Nyungwe. Check in at your lodge and relax.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk

After an early breakfast, go for chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest. The activity lasts 2–4 hours, and you will have one hour to spend with the chimpanzees. The forest is also home to colobus monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, and olive baboons. After lunch, enjoy a canopy walk 50 meters above the forest floor, with great views of birds and primates.

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Leave Nyungwe and travel north to Volcanoes National Park, home to mountain gorillas and other wildlife. Check in at your lodge and prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking in Rwanda. You will trek in a small group with a ranger to find your assigned gorilla family. Once you find them, enjoy one unforgettable hour watching and taking photos of these gentle apes. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 8: Visit Gorilla Guardians Village & Lake Kivu

After breakfast, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village (Iby’Iwacu Village) to learn about Rwandan culture, traditions, and music. Later, drive to Lake Kivu and enjoy a relaxing evening by the lakeside.

Day 9: Boat Ride on Lake Kivu

After breakfast, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Kivu to explore the islands and beautiful views around the lake. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, swimming, or kayaking.

Day 10: Return to Kigali & Departure

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali City. Depending on your schedule, you may do some shopping or have lunch before being transferred to the airport for your flight. This marks the end of your 10-Day Rwanda Safari.
