Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Primates & Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your safari guide who will brief you about your Rwanda safari itinerary. Begin your journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southern Rwanda. Stop at the Butare Museum for a historical visit and lunch. Arrive at Nyungwe in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walk
Start your day early with chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest. You will locate the chimpanzees while they are still in their nests and spend an hour observing and taking photos. Return to the lodge for lunch, then enjoy a canopy walk over the forest, offering views of trees, birds, and monkeys. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Transfer to Musanze
After breakfast, depart Nyungwe and drive to Musanze, home to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. Have lunch in Kigali City along the way. Arrive in Musanze in the evening, check in to your lodge, and relax.
Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Cultural Visit
After breakfast, go to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing before gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Once you locate a gorilla family, spend an hour with them and later receive your tracking certificate. In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience Rwandan traditions, music, and storytelling. Return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking & Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, enjoy golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park. Spend an hour observing them before returning to the lodge for lunch. Later, transfer to Kigali City for a short city tour and overnight stay.
Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Leave Kigali early in the morning and drive to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savanna park. Check into your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, and birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
