Take this short 2-Day Nyungwe Forest Tour to visit one of Rwanda’s top national parks for primates, home to 13 species including chimpanzees, which are the main attraction.
Other primates such as vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and colobus monkeys can also be seen during your visit to Nyungwe National Park.
Located in southern Rwanda near the border with Burundi, this Rwanda safari includes two main activities: a canopy walk and chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest.

Detailed 2-Day Nyungwe Forest Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe & Canopy Walk
Upon arrival in Kigali for your 2-Day Nyungwe Forest Tour, a representative from our company will pick you up from your hotel, restaurant, or any agreed location. The guide will be in company uniform and give a short briefing about your trip.
Start your drive to Nyungwe National Park, check in at your lodge, and have lunch. After lunch, proceed to the park offices for a short briefing from a park ranger before starting your canopy walk.
During the walk, you may see red-tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, and different bird species. The canopy walkway, suspended about 70 meters above the ground and 160 meters long, offers clear aerial views of Nyungwe Forest. The whole experience takes about 3 hours.
After the activity, return to your accommodation for dinner and rest as you prepare for chimpanzee trekking the next day.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Transfer Back to Kigali
Start your morning with breakfast, then head to the park offices with your driver for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest. The ranger will share safety and trekking guidelines before you begin.
You will be placed in small groups and start your trek into the forest to find the chimpanzees. The trek lasts about 5 to 6 hours, including one hour of watching and taking photos of the chimps. This gives you a special chance to see them feeding, grooming, and communicating.
After the trek, return to the park offices to receive your chimpanzee trekking certificate, then head back to your lodge for lunch and prepare for the journey back to Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, you may take an optional Kigali city tour before your departure.
