Detailed 4-Day Rwanda Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After pickup from Kigali, drive to Akagera National Park, located along the border with Tanzania. The park gets its name from the Akagera River, which flows along the border and supports a range of wildlife and birds, including the rare shoebill stork.
In the evening, you can choose to take a short evening game drive or relax at your lodge. Have dinner and rest as you prepare for the next day’s safari activities.
Day 2: Game Drive & Boat Cruise
Begin your day with an early morning game drive across the park’s Savannah plains. Look out for the Big Five, lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, and leopards along with giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and different antelope species such as bushbucks and waterbucks.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, and birds like fish eagles, kingfishers, and herons. Afterward, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Hot Air Balloon Ride in Akagera National Park
