Detailed 3-Day Harar Cultural & Historical Tour

3-Day Harar Cultural & Historical Tour

Day 1. Flight Addis Ababa – Dire Dawa

See Dire Dawa from Addis Ababa by air with Ethiopian Airlines. You’ll travel into Dire Dawa and make a stop at the active Kefira market.

The mildly narcotic leaf is sold at the largest chat market in Harar, which you will visit after that.

Wander through the sixteenth-century walled city of Harar, the fourth-largest city in the Islamic world.

It feels like time has stood still here. Visits to the National and Harari museums, the home of Haile Selassie’s father, RasMekonnen, the famous French poet Arthur Rimbaud, who worked and lived in Harar as a “gun-runner” in the 19th century, traditional Harari homes, the bustling Islamic market, and many other interesting places will be included.

When the sun goes down, you can see the hyena guy who spends his nights feeding the hyenas outside Harar’s defenses.

In order to prevent these wild hyenas from scavenging town food and domestic animals, this long-standing custom was established. Feeding the hyenas for themselves is permitted for visitors.

At the Ras Hotel, spend the night.

Day 2. Explore Babile and the Valley of Marvels

With the help of your experienced guide, you will drive to Babile and the Valley of Wonders.

The Valley of Marvels, renowned for its symmetrical rock formations, offers magnificent scenery.

Your guide will educate you on the local geology while you hike modest distances there.

The next stop on your tour is the town of Babile, which has a large market on Saturdays and a camel market on Mondays and Thursdays.

There will be ample opportunity for you to explore the hidden corners and meander through this charming city.

Upon completion of the day, you will return to your hotel.

At the Ras Hotel, spend the night.

Day 3. Discover the Amazing Town of Dire Dawa

Spend your last day in Ethiopia taking a guided tour of Dire Dawa.

You’re going to the famed French-built train station in the historic colonial city.

The Kefira market is the city’s oldest, though you can visit a few other markets during the day.

Peruse the stalls and take in the sights and smells while you purchase authentic gifts or delicious food.

The neighborhoods of Megaala and Kezira may also be explored for a while.

Not long after that, you’ll be driven to the airport in time for your return flight home.

Your memories of Ethiopia will last a lifetime, despite the fact that you are leaving.
