This 3 days slavery tour in Zanzibar is a great way to learn about the history of Slavery in Africa, and how they were captured, tortured and sold overseas. This will be done by visiting the prison island and the prison market in stone town. Apart from that, you will take an optional activity of snorkeling and visiting the Forodhani food market. Also, take part in visiting the spice farms with spices like cinnamon, coriander, turmeric and many more others which were introduced by early explorers, and visit the stone town with its unique buildings constructed from the coral stones. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Fly in or arrive at a harbor to Zanzibar and a night in stone town tour
Arrive and be welcomed by the tour driver guide that will take you through a briefing about his amazing tour, you will penetrate the interior as you head to the stone town for your accommodations.
Day 2: Prison island tour and spice tour
Take a guided tour to the prison island in the morning after breakfast where you will encounter the historical island that was used by the Arabs during the slave trade as a prison for rebellious African slaves in the 1860s. It was later used as a quarantine area for people with yellow fever, and TB cases and now, the island is used to home the giant Aldabra tortoise that was introduced by the British governor Seychelles as a gift in 1919. These tortoises are considered an endangered species. Taking a tour of this island will be a half day with the option of taking a snorkeling adventure.
After lunch, take a spice tour where you will visit different gardens with different spices such as lemongrass, rosemary, cinnamon, ginger, pepper, chilli, nutmeg, coriander and many more. After you can taste some of the foods or tea where these spices are used. Also, this tour will involve touching, feeling, smelling and even tasting. Late in the evening, have an option of visiting the Forodhani street market and an adventure to explore Zanzibar foods. Head to the hotel.
Day 3: Stone town tour and departure
Have a wonderful moment on this last experience where you will explore the beautiful stone town that was built by early explorers. There are different attractions you will visit that are constructed using coral stones from the coast hence the name of the town. Places to visit are the religious centers, markets, old fort house and many more. Later on, be dropped at the airport or any other agreed point and this will be the end of the tour.
