Detailed 5-Day Kidepo Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Kidepo National Park
A professional tour guide will pick up guests from their hotel in Kampala with a tourist vehicle, making them feel welcome before embarking on the drive to Kidepo National Park in the north. The journey takes approximately 10 hours and 10 minutes via the Kampala-Gulu highway.
There will be a lunch stop in Gulu town, where visitors will enjoy a delicious local meal at a reputable restaurant. On arrival in the park, guests will proceed to the lodge, check in, and relax while observing the beautiful birds and other animals around the lodge. Dinner will be served in the evening, followed by an overnight stay.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Kidepo National Park
Breakfast will be served at first light by the professional lodge staff. Enjoy breakfast while marveling at the sunrise over the beautiful savannah grasslands of Kidepo. Embark on a guided morning game drive in the Tean Valley, known for ostriches and spotted hyenas, which you will have the chance to view.
Enjoy the wildlife sightings until midday, then return to the lodge for a delicious lunch. Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Karamojong Community Tour
A delicious morning meal will be served at dawn at the lodge. After breakfast, embark on a morning game drive in the Kidepo River Valley, where you may see a variety of animals, including leopards, jackals, servals, cheetahs, and common genets. You will also have the chance to view numerous bird species, including marabou storks, black-headed vultures, hamerkop, African darters, African fish eagles, turacos, and piapiacs. Return to the lodge at noon for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the Kautakou Karamojong residence to interact with the indigenous people and learn about their way of life. The Karamojong are known for their vibrant dances and will showcase their traditional performances. Humanitarian activities may be organized to support the community. In the evening, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Mount Morungole Hike and Visit to the IK People
A mouthwatering breakfast will be served before sunrise, after which you will drive to the base of Mount Morungole. Begin an 8-hour hike to the top of the mountain, where you will enjoy breathtaking views of Kidepo’s wilderness, along with sightings of herds of African bush elephants and buffaloes. A scrumptious morning meal will be served at dawn. After breakfast, begin the 10-hour drive back to Kampala via the Kampala-Gulu highway.
