The wildebeests are diligent about crossing during the month of June, although it’s not an immediate migration. Initially, they stay in the western Serengeti and at the southern banks of the Grumeti River, feeding on the lush green plant species. As the grass becomes inadequate and starts turning brown, they begin considering the northern circuit along the western edge of the park, where they believe the green grass has grown again. This transition typically occurs at the end of June as July sets in. Unfortunately, many animals perish during this time because carnivores are on standby at the Mara River, ready to seize any weak wild species they can spot.
Some tourists prefer to be in the field, so they book camping sites built within the park to witness or not miss any of the ventures undertaken by the wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles, who are preparing for a marathon crossing of the Mara River. These camps include Sayari Camp and Rekero Camp, to mention a few. There are also hotels in the area, such as Kichakani Serengeti Camp, which spans both southern and northern Serengeti with comfortable, stylish tents, complete with en suite bathrooms. Serengeti under Canvas offers nine tents in a private section that are well-ventilated, with cozy beds, modern flush toilets, custom-made rugs, soft clean towels, and chandeliers that add a touch of sparkle to the entire site. Four Seasons Safari Lodge features well-elevated platforms with a nearby watering hole that provides water and attracts various animal species. Photographers get the opportunity to capture beautiful scenes and elephants sipping water.
Some of the activities that tourists can participate in include game drives. Tourists can spot most of the resident creatures during the morning hours, as they all come out to find food. For those who prefer late hours, they can book the afternoon or evening shift. Even lion enthusiasts can spot these big cats who rest during the day, sleeping for up to twenty hours, preserving their energy for the evening when other wild animals are weaker and sleepier. Adventure awaits at any time you decide to embark. Nature walks are fascinating, as you are taught how to track different animals in the wild by locating them through their footprints, but walking is done at a distance to avoid scaring away the animals or disrupting their normal routines. That’s why loud noise is prohibited once inside the national park. Other activities include hot air balloon rides and camping. Come and explore the wonders during the month of June while observing the tranquil wildebeest species.
