Cute babies are born to different animal species, including the wildebeests, during the month of December, and they fully settle in the southern circuit of Serengeti National Park, where there is green grass supported by the rains and thunderstorms. Just like in the month of November, even in December, raincoats, jackets, and umbrellas are recommended. Don’t forget a first aid kit in case of slipping on the muddy ground, so one is advised to be careful and pack gumboots if possible. At the end of December, when approaching the Christmas season, the wildebeests start packing to go back to the Ndutu region. Some of them, by this time, are pregnant and move before January and February when they expect to give birth.
It’s also at this point in time that the lions, leopards, cheetahs look for meat for their cubs. This forces them to be alert, staging at the waterholes, waiting for the animals crossing over after surviving the hungry crocodiles. During this safari, a traveler is advised to pack warm clothes since nights become very cold, insect repellent, a hat, to mention but a few.
There is a variety of activities that a traveler can take part in, and these include:
- Camping, which involves gathering in a particular area, promoting interaction among people.
- Birdwatching, where photographers stand at different spots and take pictures of different bird species which vary in colors, giving it a natural beauty. Some of these are migratory and local birds, including white-faced whistling duck, Fulvous whistling duck, knob-billed duck, Egyptian goose, African pygmy-goose, guinea fowl, secretary birds, to mention but a few.
- Game drives done in safari cars where early birds catch the warmth; animals are very active during the day, so those who wake up early and book the morning drive get to see almost all the animals. Even those in the late afternoon shifts get to see the lions hunting, as they rest during the day and are said to rest for almost twenty minutes, preserving their energy for the night hours.
- Enjoy yourself in a hot air balloon, where heaven begins while flying beyond the birds in the air. This enables one to see different animal species in hiding.
Remember, well done is better than well said, so we don’t want you to miss out on the great opportunity of observing the wildebeest migration. Be a doer and travel for a safari in Tanzania.
