River Grumeti – A Vital Lifeline in Tanzania’s Great Migration

River Grumeti flows westward, emptying its waters into the Speke Gulf of Lake Victoria. It is famously known as a passage route for the great migration and is said to cover the western corridor of the Serengeti but is situated in Masai Mara National Reserve.

It hosts many animal species, including leopards, lions (with Grumeti region prides), tigers, wildebeests, antelopes, crocodiles, gazelles, zebras, and more.

This area comes alive during the trekking seasons. Once the movement is over, tourists move to other areas, signifying that the wildebeests have left the region.

After witnessing this paradise, tourists engage in other activities such as game driving, which involves driving to the Grumeti River if it’s where the migration is likely to be. Guests wait patiently in silence, not wanting to miss a single event. After the migration, they are driven to other areas of interest.

Some tourists find game drives interesting as they are safe and allow you to reach any area in the national park quickly.

Nature walks are also enjoyed, especially by those who like to feel the ground’s vibrations caused by the wildebeests. However, they eventually move on to other areas or return to have some rest. Tour guides are provided and are always armed to protect guests from any animal species that might attack, although most animals are friendly, especially the herbivores.

Other tourists participate in hot air balloon safaris. Those who wish to view every step of the migration can book this safari and observe all the hidden predators ready to attack the survivors. Bush meals are prepared by the best chefs, giving their full attention to their customers and leaving them with the impression of always wanting to visit Africa again.

Camping is an excellent option in this area, offering all the privacy one needs. Guests who love quiet and isolated places will find this area ideal.

Here, you can pause and admire the beautiful and colorful bird species that whistle from the moment you settle in this circuit until the moment you leave. Some of these include kori bustards, African Fish Eagle, secretary bird, and many others.
